This ebooklet aims to assist teachers, psychologists and other professionals working with children in primary and junior secondary schools who have parents who are divorced or separated. The ebooklet outlines practical strategies to assist teachers and others to help support children to manage and adjust to the changes that separation and divorce bring and lessen the emotional toll, possible impact on behaviour and academic achievement, particularly for children exposed to continuing parental conflict.
In situations where the school psychologist or counsellor agrees to assist the child with counselling and support, this ebooklet includes referral advice.
Relevant strategies in the ebooklet can be easily adapted to include in the child’s Individual Learning Plan or Individual Education Plans and in the recommendations section of psychologists’ reports.
